Stageworks presents “When The Righteous Triumph,” about the sit-ins in downtown Tampa that led to the integration of local lunch counters in 1960. Commissioned by Stageworks in partnership with dramatist and USF professor Mark E. Leib, the play features local heroes like Reverend A. Leon Lowry of the NAACP, Clarence Fort, the young barber who started the sit-ins, and Mayor Julian Lane of Tampa.

Mark E. Leib’s plays have been produced in New York, Chicago, Cambridge, and the Tampa Bay area. For twenty years, Leib was the chief theater critic for the Bay area’s weekly arts-and-politics paper Creative Loafing. Leib is a professor in the English Department at the University of South Florida’s Tampa campus teaching literature and creative writing courses.
